here's a general summary, in case it will help.
in a previous general letter, the rebbe mentioned that, in egypt, the jews excelled with regard to keeping their own clothing, food, and language. someone published the letter, and he couldn't find this exact quote, so he just referenced a more common quote about the jews not changing these three items.
the rebbe writes that he is quite surprised with this. because when someone uses an uncommon quote instead of a common quote, there is usually a good reason for it, and it pays to try to understand the reason, instead of trying to fix it; because trying to fix it doesn't fix it, and instead it has the opposite effect.
and in this case, the rebbe purposely chose the uncommon quote (that the jews excelled in keeping their own food etc) because of the unhappy situation happening then, especially in israel, regarding the struggle with [kosher?] food.
the rebbe then encourages the recipient of the letter to try to fix the mistake if he can, and that fixing it may help the situation by calling attention to it.
and we should soon merit the fulfillment of the promise of 'a nation will dwell by themselves' and this is brought about via our efforts in this regard during exile [to be by ourselves, maintaining our distinct identity, regarding food etc], and our yearning should be brought into the counting of the omer, and the yearning adds vitality and light to the object of our yearning, our true and complete redemption.
the rebbe then discusses different sources regarding the above quotes (about how the jews excelled).
