I was wondering if we could pull some resources on this subject. There's a lot of bits and pieces floating around, but I haven't seen the puzzle pieced.

For example:

Serach bas Asher never died.
Yacov Avinue never died.
Eliyahu Hanavi performs missions in a physical body.
Yehudah Hanosi made kidush for his family after his histalkus.
The Baal Shem Tov and Magid visiting the Alter Rebbe in jail in physical bodies.
The Tzemach Tzedek and Rebbe Maharash being visited by the previous Rebbeim, who came in physical bodies, after their histalkus and learning maamarim from them.

I have heard it explained that Tzaddikim can be present in many places at once spiritually, like Eliyahu at the seder or at a bris, yet, this is only a haorah of their ruach. However, when they come into a body they have all halachos of a living person, like Yehudah Hanosi, who was motzi his family in kiddush. Any sources for this?

I have also heard an explanation about two bodies--the body of klipah and the body from the Luz bone. This is a more spiritual body. But is it only a more refined and perfect physical one as we know it or something different? Mainly, can it defy normal physical bounds. For example, Yacov's body was embalmed. That would kill a normal person. Is that the same body that he lives on in or does he live on in spiritual one. Was Eliyahu's physical body burnt up and a more spiritual one was saved for his descent, or is it the same one? Similarly, when Yehudah Hanasi came and made kiddush was this the body they buried or a more spiritual one? Similarly Gan Eiden: is it a physical place that is in a higher spiritual dimension? I believe I've heard that it is.

Like I said I've heard a lot of pieces and I have a general picture, but I would like to research this more and find some clear sources on it (I know they're out there, I've even seen some I just want to compile resources). Anyone able to help?

Did you come to any conclusions here, chassidus?

No. I haven't really looked into it much yet. But now that you remind me, I think I will.

Browsing around the Chabad Library CD...check out Shaarei Tshuva, Sha'ar haTefila, 47, 1 (a reference to the bodies of Chanoch and Eliyahu, with a reference to something stated previously there)

Also: TT Hanachos 5715, 112

If I remember correctly, in Samech Vov the Rebbe Rashab brings the example of Eliyahu Hanovi from the Zohar, where he was unable to attend the Idra because he had to rescue R' Hamnuna Saba. He can be at every bris because he is there in a ruchniyusdike manifestation, but to perform this act for R' Hamnuna Saba he had to assume a physical form and the physical is bound by time and place.

Found the source:As is known,[123] Eliyahu HaNavi can be present in a number of places simultaneously, except that he does not come himself: only a spark of Eliyahu HaNavi comes. When, however, he does come himself, he is present in one place. Thus we find[124] that when he had to save Rav Hamnuna Sava, in whose honor he was obliged to come himself, he was unable to be in another place at the same time.

YN, In the English source you quote it doesn't mention "physical", rather the diffrence is between a "spark" and "himself" (his etzem), though in the original sources it is clear (one can also add an additional source - 5672 p 101).
In addition, there is nothing there about what "chassidus" wrote about being obligated in the halochos of a living person.

If anyone will take a look at Ohr Hatorah Berieshis, vol. 7 p..1163a ("Lehavin Inyan shem Eitz Hadaas Tov v'Ra"), it will clarify this inyan greatly.

Berieshis, vol. 7

did they ever print the previous (123456) volumes? if so, why are they out of print (for so long)?
