there are several reasons broght down see pidyon haben kehilchoso?
garlic wards off evil spirits
since they say that eating from a seudas pidyon haben is equivalent to 84 fasts, and garlic is a spice and therefore goes a long way to flavour further meals meriting more people to have 'eaten' from the PH.

Who takes the baby to the Kohen--the father or the mother? In Siddur it says the father, but I've heard that what's done is that the mother takes him.

If a woman has a miscarriage or an abortion, ch'v, and afterwards gives birth to a son as her "first born" is he a bachor who requires Pidyon Haben?

I don't think so. A bechor is a "peter rechem".
(P.S. There is a whole nice explanation in Shaar HaEmunah about the "peter rechem"...)

I think there's more to it than that...and if so, what about a woman who has her first baby by Caesarean and subsequently has her second child naturally--this baby needs a pidyon haben?! I understand the inyan of peter rechem, but there is also the inyan of Reishis Ono.
QUESTION: The Mishnah teaches that it is possible for a firstborn son to be considered the Bechor with regard to receiving a double portion of the inheritance, while he is not considered the Bechor with regard to the requirement of Pidyon ha'Ben, and vice versa. RASHI (DH ha'Ba) explains that the factor that determines whether a firstborn son is considered the Bechor with regard to inheritance is whether the child is "Reishis Ono" -- "the first of his (the father's) strength" (Devarim 21:17), which means the first offspring of the father. The Gemara in Bava Basra (111b) explains further that the child must be "Mi she'Libo Daveh Alav" -- one for whom the father's heart is concerned.

What if someone get's divorced and remarried to someone else, and he/she never had a child and they have a male child with their new husband/wife who has children from his/her previous marriage
(ex: A. and B. get divorced because they could'nt have children together, and A. gets married to C. who has a kid from previous marriage and they have a baby boy)
Does the baby get a pidyon haBen? (I'm really ignorant in this topic)

As stated above, the baby has to be the first to emerge from its mother's womb. In your example, the child born to A and C is not the first one to emerge from C's womb, therefore does not require a pidyon.

I was saying either that or vice versa, like if A is the wife and C is the husband.

The answer can be deduced from what is stated above... :glasses:

Not only do they go a long way for many meals, they are also foods that do not go off & last a long time.
Another reason is that if you have both both those with a 'sweet tooth' & the guys who prefer strong tastes will bopth enjoy what they are given. Everyone will be happy.:)
