I recently bought this:

http://store.kehotonline.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HAR-KITZHSLA&variation=&aitem=25&mitem=83

"Of the many books of explanation on Tanya have been printed, this is the highest in value and closest to the source; the work of the grandson, and principal student, of the Alter Rebbe, the Rebbe the Tzemach Tzedek..."

What is the basis to say that the Tzemach Tzedek was the principal student of the Alter Rebbe?

What was the purpose of the attached image?

Besides for the obvious - that Lubavitchers will consider the Memale Mokom to be the principal student - your question would then be, why was the TT the principal student, and not the Mitteler Rebbe?

Being that I don't know the pathways of the minds of the PR team at Kehos, I can just say that they never heard that from the Rebbe. What MIGHT lend itself to say that is: A) The fact that the TT printed all of the AR's Seforim (other than Tanya, printed by the AR himself), B) The idea repeated many times by the Rebbeim, that the TT was very careful to not mix his ideas directly into the AR's words he was quoting, but to say and write them as distinct commentary. As opposed to the MR, where the words of the AR are part of the flow of the Chasidus of the Miteler Rebbe.

Still, dumb thing to say.

My post was slightly edited by the moderators, so the reference to the image is no longer clear. Thus I removed it. ;)

Was my question the one you had?

Yes it was. Although there was another question I had as well. ;)

Does "principal student" exclude any others?

Nu wake up... here we got a guy who is worse off than the guy in the Baal Shemtovtik story where they go to the mansion of the guy that friied out but sat learning all day bareheaded as
this guy is not even getting a bris so fast and makes Scholem look like an idiot but has the same attitude..

and the narrowness he expects he is giveb..even I se i was R. Aaron of Strasoleleytde nu's book...

go read my revered "teacher" Tali Lowenthals book ...go read Jacobs etc... but the principal student means the next Rebbe

and I learn Reb aaron now and then but have not seen to buy...it s in the local library...

as for the way Kehos operates I am shocked you believe what they write..when I call I get people who do not even know what they have to sell and have to get someoine to buy for me as I have no patience for them as they do not print what need s to be prointed....the old Or Hatorah Bershis and Shemos and other out of print AR..

I did not start this thread about Reb Aron. I did make a bit of a joke by originally included a scanned page of Sha'arei HaYichud, but I was actually wondering how they could exclude the MR. Some didn't like my joke so I removed the pic. The moderators also changed the title...

Bareheaded? :errm:

as this guy is not even getting a bris so fast and makes Scholem look like an idiot but has the same attitude..

The bris is not the issue. The moderators probably don't want me to talk about my personal life here, but if everyone keeps on mentioning it like some trump card in every discussion in which I participate, I might have to.

and the narrowness he expects he is giveb..even I se i was R. Aaron of Strasoleleytde nu's book...

I don't expect narrowness. The person who turned me onto Reb Aron is a very well-known Lubavitcher, who says that Reb Aron's seforim are some of his favourites. ;)

But the Tzemach Tzedek wasn't the next Rebbe, unless they just don't consider the Mitteler Rebbe a student because he was a son.

and I learn Reb aaron now and then but have not seen to buy...it s in the local library...

It is not that difficult to get copies of the original (1820? I forget) print, and there have been a few reprints of it by the same people. I kind of like the original because it does not expand the roshei teivos.

as for the way Kehos operates I am shocked you believe what they write..

Where did I say I believe what they write?

when I call I get people who do not even know what they have to sell and have to get someoine to buy for me as I have no patience for them as they do not print what need s to be prointed....the old Or Hatorah Bershis and Shemos and other out of print AR..

Order online if you wonder what they have.

Much as I'd like to reply to Gevurah, my decoder just isn't working.

I was not writing to you so you should follow nothing.

If that was your intended purpose, why not use DES3?

Bittul followed nothing. Why should I get encryption software?

but I was actually wondering how they could exclude the MR

when some with a mind wonders why those without one do what they do or say what they say then he is out of is mind.

The inability to express one's self clearly is a Chisaron Bedaas, not a Shleimus Hadaas.
