The Alter Rebbe in Jail

What does the Rebbe mean when he says in the name of the Alter Rebbe that the Ba'al Shem Tov and the Maggiad cam to visit him in Jail, and told him about the Kitrug Shelimayla? Where they actualy there in a physical way or just there through Ruach Hakodesh?

The Friederker Rebbe saw the jail cell the Alter Rebbe had been in, and told his father about it. The Rebbe Rashab asked him to describe the jail and said it was always pashut to him that the Baal Shem Tov and the Maggid had come to visit the Alter Rebbe b'gashmius.

end of the story is, is that the Rebbe Rashab said that now he understands what they meant when they said that the ba'al shemtov and the magid came to visit the alter rebbe-the room was big enough to hold three people, physically.

i also heard from a teacher that the reason they were there physically, was because they were going to make a psak din about the alter rebbe's continuation of the spreading of chassidus.
