Does anyone know the reason graves are different in Eretz Yisroel from the graves in chutz l'aretz? Is there a halachic reason?

How are the graves different?

Graves in chutz l'aretz are "regular" graves--a body buried under the earth with a headstone.

In Eretz Yisroel, the area of the buried body is covered by a rectangular stone. See pictures of Har Hazeisim or Tsfas to get the idea.

It depends on the graveyard...

I've only ever seen the one type in EY and the other type in chu"l. Perhaps there are exceptions, but why the basic difference?

Ach YN, you need to spend some more time with the chassidim
