Obviously I'm still working on observance of the mitzvot. Please advise me as to what length is NOT considered violating the prohibition of cutting oneself?
My beard isn't anything to behold and I feel like I look silly because it's not all in.
Forgive my ignorance, but to what degree can I trim it so that I fulfill the mitzva? Scissor trimming is alright, but a razor should never touch my body physically at any point?

You're asking the wrong crowd. In Lubavitch, we don't trim our beards at all. No scissors. No electric razors. No funny powder. Etc.
Best of luck

"It is fitting that a man not uproot any hair from his beard at all, for the beard hairs are channels of divine spiritual abundance."
