It would be helpful to have one thread containing the various responses the Rebbe gave to the question "why doesn't the Rebbe go/why hasen't the Rebbe gone/when will the Rebbe go" to Eretz Yisroel.

Here's one to start:

One Sunday, when the Rebbe was distributing dollars for tz’daka, Mr. Gershon Solomon, director of the Temple Faithful organization, passed by and said, “The last thing, Rebbe, is that all of Am Yisroel is waiting for the Rebbe and all his Chabad chassidim to come to Eretz Yisroel.”

The Rebbe answered, “Amen! My coming to Eretz Yisroel is not the ‘last thing,’ but the first thing that will happen when Moshiach comes, and it will be the last day of Galus.”

Thanks; it would also be helpful if sources were quoted.

I don't understand the above response. Care to explain?
The Rebbe gave various answers to various people. Mistaver that he answered according to the person - but lav davka it was the real reason (וכמו שמצינו הרבה כגון דא).
However, see the book חשבונו של עולם p 202, for a copy of an article by R' Shlomo Goren, where he describes 4 yechidisim he had with the Rebbe, in 4 consecutive years, where in each one he asked this question, and received 4 different answers...
On the fourth answer, he writes בדברים אלו הרגשתי שגילה את לבו וניכרים דברי אמת שזאת סיבת הסיבות לאי ביקורו של האדמו"ר בארץ.
