Thanks for bringing it back
Chabad Talk had a lot of positive influence on me back in the day when I was a curious bt kid. Time passed and I wasn't online for the inactivity, but I'm glad the board is back and hope it can continues with what made it special back in my day.
Personally I feel that internet forums can add a real intellectual vibrancy to any movement. We have a lot of great thinkers in Chabad, B"H, and making them accessible on the internet reaches people in a way other venues don't. We can't let our geniuses and learners grow dusty in the shuls and the mosdos, like old sifrei torah - we have to take them out and parade them in the street, so that anybody can see them and reach them. Tzemach, I don't know what your plans are but I appreciate it and wish you well. Good yom tov everybody ![]() |

Ditto!
ChabadTalk made a genuine difference in my life back in the day, and B"H was a pivotal force in guiding me to make a number of choices which I am reaping the benefits from today (not going to college, shlichus, speaking to kids in Yiddish, among others). Hey, even the lively "politics" arguments helped, as I since ended up marrying someone from the other end of the political spectrum! Good Yom Tov! I hope reviving ChabadTalk brings the Rebbe nachas. |

Shecheyanu is said even for not eating a kiwi for a year. For ChabadTalk, it's much longer than that for me. My most recent post is from 2002!
It's been a long time since I co-founded ChabadTalk (over 15 years!), since then I got married, went on Shlichus etc, and moved on to other things. At the recent Kinus a few people pushed me to figure out how to get the forum back online as they still refer to for research, and BH in honor of Yud Alef Nissan and with the help of some talented people in the Philippines and India, we've been able to restore all the data and files, and move the site to a solid server at Rackspace. I think that even today when most conversation happens on Whatsapp for Facebook, those conversations tend to be random, and disorganized. It's also very hard to search old conversations and refer to them. So ChabadTalk still has it's place. In fact the ability to endlessly debate a topic - without getting personal, forces a level of intellectual honestly, which is hard to find anywhere else. @Yair, regarding plans for the forum, I have a lot of vague ideas, I'm gonna give it more though once I'm done with the technical issues. If you have any thoughts, we can open a discussion right here. @Rabbi_D, I was at the big Hakhel today in Yerushalayim with 10,000 people, and the MC made a loud Shehecheyanu בשם ומלכות... Then he promptly pulled out a new fruit and ate it on stage

Thanks, mods!
Great to be back, although I doubt this forum can compete with Facebook.

Tzemach, any chance you can also bring back the Practical Halacha sheets (previously at ChabadTalk.com/go/ph/) from the Melbourne Kollel? Very useful reference material!

Honestly, I didn't know it was "down". I just thought it was "dead" - because no one was posting here anymore.
Glad to have it back, and hope it's back for "real"...

If it becomes active or not depends on many factors. Once a forum dies down, it takes new momentum to get it back up.
But now it at least stands a chance

And I miss Yitzchak Scheier z"l. The fact that he's not "Returning" with the rest of us is going to be really felt. He was like a father to me.
